embodied meeting design

Oriana López-Uribe, Executive Director, Balance, A.C.

Meeting fatigue is real for many organisations. But when a group of people come together – online or off – with purpose, enthusiasm and care, it is more likely that participants will listen and be heard, needed decisions will be made and the shared time will be enjoyable and constructive.

My facilitation includes strategic design of online and face-to-face group experiences aimed at strengthening collaboration, developing strategies and navigating change.

Our hyper-online existence has highlighted the fundamental value of physical presence. An embodied strategy meeting puts emphasis on being present physically: first in our own bodies, and then with the people we are sharing time, space and purpose.

The preparation process starts with clarifying objectives, and crafting agendas, methodologies and rhythms that build momentum.

Both the preparation and actual meeting are embodied experiences. As a lover of dance, a feminist and yoga teacher, I bring attention to our bodies and the connections between matter and mind in meetings.

The physical presence and movement exercises I bring to meetings are linked to the strategic goals of those who are sharing the space together. Depending on the group this may take the form of guided breath work, self massage, stretching or other body-centered activities.
